For its... horridness, Twilight did the same. <s>I can't believe this is me admitting I read the books, and hated every second, but when I start something I gotta finish.</s> As much as the movie sucked, it stayed true to the book for the most part, the important things were there and everything was virtually how it should've been.
Things that piss me off when they go from books to TV are things like addition of characters, where you're sitting there going "what the FUCK?!" which is what I did for True Blood.
Granted, True Blood's book and the show were very different, but you know, the book was good and for all the sex in the show, it's not too shabby. I hated a lot of the side stories, I thought they were boring as hell, but all in all, Anna Paquin was amazing and they did a good job with the show. My WTFness for that is Tara. Who the fuck is Tara?! WHY IS SHE EVEN THERE?! The actress was AMAZING don't get me wrong, I loved her, and her character is interesting but like... who the fuck is she? And Lafayette--TOTALLY different in the book.
Which brings me to my WTFNESS of the evening/morning/whateverness. So my sister started reading The Vampire Diaries and she's a dork and is all about love stories and because I like vampires, I was like "yeah, all right, I'll give it a go." So I read the first two books and I couldn't handle another Twilight so I stopped, but because I'm a glutton for punishment, the first episode aired last night, and I watched it. My first thought: Who the fuck is Jeremy? What the fuck?!
They fucking gave the main character a stoner brother! And apparently, the main character's ex-boyfriend and a girl who's detrimental to the plot are now siblings? Like, they added all these random connections in, and added a CHARACTER. The main character has a 4 year old sister in the book, and in the show they gave her a 15 year old stoner brother. That--makes like no sense in my brain.
I respect people trying to make good shows out of books or whatever, but seriously, at least try and follow the damn plot. Tara was bad enough in True Blood, but this? I'm starting to lose hope in the ability of a good vampire anything to ever come out since Interview with a Vampire.
Not to mention I laughed my ass off the entire time I watched The Vampire Diaries. Now don't get me wrong, I mean no disrespect, and I know that people like some of these things, my sister's one of them. Hopeless romantic, it's just not for me, but what really irks me is random character insertion. It seriously puts a whole new meaning to Mary/Gary Stu. For realz.
On an unrelated note, Supernatural season five episode one... homg -flails- I don't ship Wincest, but way for the writers to offer something to the fangirls. Kudos to you, writers. Kudos to you -snort-
